President Jonathan assures the world that the Nation would do everything to guard the introduction of Nigeria Nuclear Power Plant.

Speaking on Monday at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, the South Korean capital, he disclosed that Nigeria remained totally committed to complying with all international legal and regulatory needs for safety and security within the use of nuclear energy.

“I want to assure this august gathering that Nigeria has remained manifestly committed to compliance with international legal and regulatory needs for safety, security and safeguards within the use of nuclear energy.

“Our commitment  could be traced back as it could be recalled that Nigeria was the second country to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty in 1968 and voted for its indefinite extension in 1995.

“Nigeria additionally signed the great Safeguards Agreement in 1998 and ratified the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear disaster in 1990. Also, in preparation for this introduction, Nigeria has ratified all relevant international treaties and conventions.”

He said Nigeria would make sure the conversion of reactor from high enriched to low enriched uranium.
