Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney attracted 500,000 new Facebook friends in less than a half-hour with his relaunch on Friday.

The rapid membership drive equated to 278 fans per second on Friday.

Rooney is already on his way to hitting 600,000 friends today. He has more than 2.5m followers on Twitter.
