Lagos State to sue killer DPO for N500m

Lagos State Govt is to sue the state Police Command and former Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Pen Cinema Police Station.

Mr Segun Fabunmi will be facing the law over the killing of a protester and injuring of 3 others throughout January fuel subsidy protest in Lagos.

The deceased, 27-year recent Demola Abiodun, was allegedly shot dead by the dismissed DPO Fabunmi during last subsidy protest in Yaya Abatan, Ogba space of Lagos State.

Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola had ordered the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ade Ipaye, to require over the case and make sure that justice was done, as he vowed that the matter wouldn’t be swept underneath the carpet.

Director, OPD, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi addressing the press yesterday said the state government was suing the police and therefore the former DPO for N200 million for the killing of Abiodun and N100 million a piece for 3 others, who were wounded by police bullets in the protest.

She said: “Once the autopsy is prepared, we are going to head to court. The DPO, who killed Abiodun remains in jail.

It would be recalled that in January, throughout the nationwide fuel subsidy protest in Lagos, the accused dismissed DPO, was speculated to have shot dead Abiodun whereas they were taking part in soccer on school Road, Ogba and wounded 3 others.
