Fuel Subsidy in Nigeria – The Senators yesterday sit against the fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria by President Goodluck Jonathan.

This was discussed in a debate on the 2012 Appropriation Bill at the Senate.

Senator Chris Ngige (ACN) Anambra warned that any attempt to remove the fuel subsidy would not play well for the benefit of the people though he suggested that actions be taken to reduce Nigeria’s debt profile.

Removing this subsidy will not solve our problems. Budgets are supposed to bring smile to the faces of the people but the attempt to remove subsidy will cause them pain.

Senator Abubakar Tutare of the PDP, Adamawa Adamawa noted that the proposed withdrawal of fuel subsidy would further increase the unemploynment rate in the country.

Senator Anthony Adeniyi of the ACN, Ekiti noted that his people were against the removal of subsidy as they will be negatively affected.

Amongst those who spoke includes Senator Sunny Ugbuoji of the PDP; Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, PDP, Abia and Abaribe.
